HOMEWARD
Near the end of 2020 after over 13 years living in London and due to the Coronavirus pandemic, I returned home to New Zealand.
It was not a move I wanted to make - I adored my life in London - but world & family events made it a decision that was unavoidable. Since arriving back I’ve had moments of deep discomfort, wondering if I’ll ever fit back into this place again… That after such a long time away and after my adult life being so deeply formed by such a different place, that I no longer felt like I belonged here.
And I’ve had moments of pure joy, seeing with new eyes all the sights and sounds I grew up with. The song of a Tui above me. The bubbling of the earth boiling below me. The smell of the bush on a morning walk. And with each of those moments comes a feeling that, with every one of these colours and textures and shapes and sounds, I am returning Homeward.
